Poetry Matters

We've been reading a wonderful book called Poetry Matters, by Ralph Fletcher. After we read a chapter, we write our own poems in our journals. It's so easy to write a poem! Poetry is just our thoughts on paper. Here are some of the poems we've written so far this year.

 

Me and You

Me and you
go together
like I am the key
and you are the diary
and I open all your secrets.

            Me and you 
                  go together
                  like socks
                  I am the right
                  and you are the left
                  walking together
                  like friends.

                     Me and you
                               go together like
                               best friends 
                               all the time.

The Mane of the Sun

As the sunshine 
lights up the earth,

its beaming rays 
flash off the lions mane 
of the sun.

Through the clouds rising 
making the earth 
brighter, 
brighter,
and brighter 
as he makes morning 
with his beautiful mane.

Alone

Me, myself, and I 
I知 all I have
when I知 alone.
No one knows I知 here
when I知 
alone.
No one hears me 
no one knows
I知 alone.

Harpy Eagle

   as he flies
   in the sky
   wings spread 
   in the air

eyes dark 
as a dark 
cave

flying to 
find his prey

bam! catching 
a three toed sloth 
the harpy eagle!
